This hike is suitable for all hikers. We will start out going up the Mesa Trail, then veer off to the right and go past some major rock formations, then briefly get on the Sand Canyon trail, connect to the Contemplative Trail, then the Roundup Trail. This route has many close-up views of giant rocks, and features an overlook point. We will then loop around back to the Mesa Trail. Anyone who wants to “bail out” at this point can take the Mesa Trail back to the parking lot. The complete hike will continue on the Roundup Trail, past the Greenlee Trail, to the Red Rock
Canyon Trail, which goes past the quarry and then on down to the parking lot.
The hike will take about 2 hours, with some break time(s). It is a leisurely hike, with occasional stoppages to take in the views. Dogs are allowed (on leash). As always, bring plenty of water and snacks.
Directions: Take US 24 West just past 31st Street to the exit for Red Rocks Open Space, where you will exit US 24 turning left onto Ridge Road. We will gather in the main parking lot. The address is 3550 W High Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80904.
While we will be doing some new hikes this year, we will start off with this old favorite, which had our best attendance last year.
