The ride is 9 miles total out and back, 4.5 miles each way with a total elevation gain of ~1300 ft . It is up and down on the way out and the same coming back. It starts in Stratton Open Space on the Ridge Trail with a gradual uphill and some rocks to navigate around. It connects to the Chamberlain Trail with more gradual uphill and some loose scree and rocks and then descends to cross North Cheyenne Canyon Road. More gradual uphill then a level meadow before dropping again and crossing South Cheyenne Canyon Road right in front of the entrance to Seven Falls. After this point it’s a long climb up South Chamberlain Trail through the area known as Strawberry Fields and ends at Old Stage Road where you turn around and head back the way you came. This ride is Blue for Aerobic and Blue for Technical. All participants meet at the Stratton Open Space NLT 9am. The address is 1504 Ridgeway Ave Colorado Springs, CO 80906. There is a large parking lot with a port-o-potty. I’ll be in my silver Subaru Forester wearing a bright orange helmet. Note that there is construction on Cheyenne Blvd and a detour will take you on Cheyenne Rd to get around it before getting back on Cheyenne Blvd.

Meet at the Woodmen Park & Ride parking lot between 8:30 - 9:00a. The address is 6910 Mark Dabling Blvd, CS, CO 80919. We will then carpool/caravan to the trailhead/parking lot at the intersection of Mt Herman Rd/Nursery Rd to begin the hike by 9:30a. For those who are familiar with the area and want to meet the group at the trailhead, be there by 9:30a. This hike is suited for all hikers with negligible elevation. Dogs are allowed on leash. The hike is another described in "Easy Hikes - Hidden Past" by Shockley & Jones. The hike will be leisurely, with several stops for a brief history lesson on the stories with this location, as per the book. Depending on the length of pauses, it should take about 2 hours. This hike will be fun and thought provoking with tales of the "Ute Indian Prayer Tree", the "orphaned CCC nursery pine trees", plus the landmark "Monument Rock", all visible along the route. The loop will make it about a 3.5 mile hike. As always, bring plenty of water, snacks, and sunscreen will likely be needed. If any questions, contact John Thomason, 512-639-1991, thomason@rmi.net

The ride is 8 miles total out and back, 4 miles each way with a total elevation gain of ~1400 ft . It starts with a steep climb up High Drive for about ¾ mile to the Palmer Trail located on your right. Start the long gradual climb up Palmer Trail that includes some level spots along the way but also some tricky tree roots to navigate over and/or around and loose scree and rocks as you get closer to the top. There is a junction here to continue on Palmer Trail and descend into Section 16 but this is a very technical Black trail that we won’t do. There is also un uphill option onto the Crystal Park Cutoff but that turns into a private trail. We’ll decide if we want to continue another ½ mile uphill on that trail to the sign that says Private Trail but the going in plan will be to turnaround at the junction and head back down. It’s a fun descent, one of my favorites, but you have to watch your speed and look out for other riders and hikers. This ride is Blue for Aerobic and Blue for Technical. All participants meet at the bottom of High Drive where Gold Camp Road meets Bear Creek Road. It’s known as Ring The Peak Portal 10. This is where High Drive and our ride starts. There is very limited parking at the bottom of High Drive but you can park at several locations along either Gold Camp Road or Bear Creek Road. Try to arrive early enough to park and ride up to the meeting point at the bottom of High Drive. I’ll be in my silver Subaru Forester wearing a bright orange helmet but I won’t be waiting at my car.

It will be out and back totaling about 5 miles. The final ascent is about a .25 mile climb. It should take about 3 hours. As always, bring plenty of water, snacks and sunscreen.
