Participants desiring to car pool meet at the Safeway parking lot on West Colorado Ave, just past 31st St. Be there between 8:00 AM and 8:15 AM. We will then go West on US 24 to Divide, then go South on Hwy 67 for about 4 miles. Just past Mueller State Park, turn left onto CR 62. Go past the Mennonite Camp, past the parking area on your left for Raspberry Mountain, to the parking area on your right for The Crags. Total mileage on CR 62 is about 3 miles. If driving direct to the Crags parking area, plan to get there by 9 AM. The hike is rated as "moderate" by the CMC, per the "20 Best Hikes In Colorado Springs" guide. Round trip hiking distance is a about 5.5 miles, with about 800 ft of elevation gain. This hike was our "Fall Colors" hike in 2020, and there is a chance that some Aspen trees along the way will still have some foliage. The views from the summit are spectacular, and the twisted pines at the top illustrate nature‘s quest for survival, as against all odds these trees survive. Dogs are allowed on leash. As always, bring plenty of water, snacks and sunscreen will likely be needed. If any questions, contact John Thomason, 512-639-1991, thomason@rmi.net
